What do you do with a measuring tape, scissors, fray check, and a mallet? Apply snaps, of course! This week, Ashley was working on a custom garment for her good friend Hunter Claire to wear to the 2017 NFA Honors Night. This custom piece had a detachable cape that could be snapped on for different looks. I had never applied snaps to a garment, but this was the perfect opportunity for Ashley to teach me. Also, it would have been a missed opportunity if I had not taken detail shots featuring her freshly self-manicured nails! Later that night, Hunter Claire came by the studio for a fitting; and of course, it was perfection!
On another note, this was a really goofy day! The sky turned so dark at around 3:30 p.m.; it was the first day of the season that the sun set so early. To welcome such a momentous day, Ashley and I spent time intermittently listening to upbeat music and dancing while I was sewing for the Base Collection, and just telling jokes and acting silly--all while we did a mountain of work!
The day came and went in a blink it seemed. On Thursday night, November 16, Marathon Music Works in Nashville is the venue for the 2017 NFA Awards event, and Ashley is a nominee for "Women's Wear Designer of the Year." I am so honored to be associated with a designer of Ashley's essence.
Because of the full week ahead, I am taking home with me wrap dresses to sew over the weekend. I have a hectic life, but I would not have it any other way. Doing what you love and loving what you do--my definition of happiness!!!
** "Hmmm...Do you love the hem finish on this Detachable Cape in the signature Ona Rex lilac as much as I do?"**
To finalize my week, I would like to congratulate Ashley Balding as Nashville's 2017 "Women's Wear Designer of the Year!" I knew you would win! Yaaaay!!!
XOXO
